P&O and Stena Line

These two operators are working together to redevelop and enlarge the port of Cairnryan - introducing extra sailings and relieving a notorious bottleneck in Scotland's transport infrastructure.

We've helped them every step of the way, starting with the issue of closing the existing port.  When it comes to the redevelopment, our advice was to seek a Harbour Empowerment Order from the Scottish Ministers.  This avoids the complexities of applying for a suite of some 12 separate consents, and should make the process much more straightforward.

The proposal was considered at a public local inquiry in 2006.  Assuming a successful outcome, we'll then bring in other areas of our expertise - such as construction, commercial and coporate services - to help our clients achieve their aim.

Renewable energy

Renewable energy is one of the hottest topics around in Scotland, with a Government target of 6GW of generation capacity available by 2020.  The truth is that the easy decisions have already been taken - the next 10 years will see a far more contentious picture.

We are already working on numerous public inquiries related to wind farm development, drawing on public sector advocacy expertise within the team.  We're also working on issues such as nuclear contamination.  These are interesting times.
