Retail

The retail sector is a major contributor to the Scottish economy.  Retail sales account for 29% of Scotland’s expenditure–based GDP.  Nearly 230,000 people work in retail in Scotland, 10% of the nation’s workforce.  The retail sector’s performance in GDP terms has consistently outstripped that of other sectors within the Scottish economy and of the Scottish economy as a whole over the last 5 years.

This does not mean that the retail environment is not challenging.  During the last decade the price of shop goods rose by 10% less than the overall level of inflation and shop prices are now lower than they were 5 years ago.

Biggart Baillie is a leading presence in the retail sector in Scotland.  In this year’s edition of the Legal 500 we were described as having “an excellent reputation for retail advice”.

The firm acts for clients operating across the entire retail sector and is proud to represent some of the most well known and active high street and out of town retailers in the UK today.

As well and representing retail occupiers, we have considerable experience in representing landlords and property developers operating in the sector.

In addition to core property services, Biggart Baillie can assist with every aspect of retailing operations from employment issues to dispute resolution, health and safety advice, intellectual property and licensing to commercial transactions and pensions.

At Biggart Baillie we are committed to being there for our clients and taking their business personally – whatever their business sector.  Whatever our clients require, we are always on hand to provide the right advice and support at the right time.
