AgriBusiness

With a range extending from food, forest and fibre production, through agricultural chemicals to farm and land management and development, agribusiness is a substantial contributor to the Scottish economy. The economics of agricultural land use are now inextricably linked to the Scottish Parliament’s intensive programme of Land Law Reform. Rights to Roam; agricultural tenants’ rights to buy; potential extensions to crofting; these are all key and current topics.

Biggart Baillie have a strong presence at the most commercial end of the agribusiness spectrum. We’ve bought  investment woodlands for clients, acted for purchasers of fish farms and helped clients buy large-scale animal-feed businesses.

Environmental aspects are often of considerable importance. Our expert team has represented clients operating everything from meat processing plants to animal incinerators.

And our involvement doesn’t stop at the production end. We successfully challenged the Government’s  food catering restrictions in the ‘beef on the bone case’. We have a strong logistics practice for clients who are key players in the freight transport field. We act for major food retailers through our well-respected retail group.

Food production isn’t the only contribution rural land makes to the Scottish economy. Whisky sales alone stand at £3bn and we’re active there too, with clients who are among the best-known names in the drinks industry.
