Peter qualified as a solicitor in 1976 and became a Partner in Biggart Baillie in 1989. Between 1999 and 2004 he was head of our Property Department. Peter has extensive involvement and expertise in large scale property development and cross border transactions of all types including asset backed financings, investment purchases and sales, corporate acquisitions and disposals and privatisations.
His experience includes:-
- Acting as lead partner advising British Railways Board on all Scots law aspects of the privatisation of the rail industry.
- Advising Barclays Capital and Bank of New York on all Scots law aspects of the syndicated £1.45billion financing, and the subsequent £946million refinancing of the privatisation of the national air traffic control system.
- Lead partner advising Barclays Capital, various Issuers and others on all Scots law aspects of a range of multi-million pound securitisations in the health care sector.
- Lead partner advising Westminster Health Care Holdings Limited on all Scots law aspects of the £525million sale of the Westminster business to Barchester Health Care Limited, and thereafter acting for Barchester on all Scots law aspects of its £1billion+ re-financing and securitisation.
- Lead partner advising Wilcon Homes Limited on their 1200 acre “new town” mixed use major urban expansion development at Duloch Park, Dunfermline.
- Lead partner for Whitbread on all Scots law aspects of numerous cross border business acquisitions and disposals in the hotels and leisure sector, including the £925million sale of David Lloyd Leisure Limited and various hotel and restaurant swap transactions.
- Advising on all Scots law aspects of mortgage loan book transactions, including the £2.28billion home equity release loan book acquisition by JP Morgan Chase Bank N. A. from Northern Rock.
Independent research by Legal 500 commented that Peter is an ‘excellent, very diligent, thorough, and a good negotiator’.
Other than the law, Peter’s consuming passions include motor racing and Mediterranean motor cruising.
