Murray Shaw is Chairman and Senior Partner at Biggart Baillie LLP, the leading Scottish law firm.

Murray who has been a partner at Biggart Baillie for over 20 years, is regarded one of the country’s leading planning lawyers and is accredited by the Law Society as a specialist in Planning and Building Contract Law.

Murray acts for a range of parties in relation to planning issues including developers and local authorities. His experience includes commercial, housing and energy developments. In addition to advising on planning applications and agreements, Murray also regularly appears for clients at Inquiries both in terms of the Planning Acts and other similar legislation such as the Electricity Act. Recently Murray has been working with a number of clients both in the private and public sector to understand the impact of the recent changes to the planning system and how to adapt to meet these.

Murray’s other area of expertise is in construction where he advises a range of developers, contractors and sub-contractors on contract drafting and contentious issues.

Murray also acts as an adjudicator and arbiter. His expertise in these areas is reflected by his accreditation by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in both areas. 

Murray is an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbiters and is a member of the Regulatory and Disciplinary Committees of the ACCA as well as a member of the Remuneration and Planning Law Committees of the Law Society of Scotland.
