As a partner of more than eighteen years’ standing, Martin has established an enviable reputation in the areas of planning and environmental law and is Accredited by the Law Society of Scotland as a specialist in planning law.
Within these fields, Martin has particular expertise in waste, energy, transport and minerals work. He advises on the several consents or authorisations required for complex projects and represents clients at any formal Hearings or Inquiries. Over the past decade he has represented clients at numerous wind farm inquiries and helped deliver major projects involving thermal generating stations, quarries, mines and open cast sites, landfill, harbours and in relation to cultural heritage issues.
Martin appears for clients to present their case to Local Planning Authorities and at Inquiry. He acts for developers and local authorities and so can see the planning issues from both sides. He advises pre-application on how best to secure consent for a wide range of projects.
Martin’s interest in the natural and built heritage of Scotland also allows him to marry his personal and professional interests in these areas of planning and environmental law.
He is a contributor to the Scottish Planning Encyclopaedia.
Independent research for Chambers 2012 comments that Martin Sales continues to garner recognition for his energy, minerals and waste work. He is recognised for his extensive experience of wind farm inquiries on behalf of clients such as Infinergy.
