Derek has many years’ experience in the fields of corporate, banking & finance and insolvency law. He has advised clients in many business sectors including transportation, electronics, utilities and property. Derek’s experience covers a broad range of projects and transactions stretching from start-ups and initial funding to joint ventures, mergers and acquisitions through to investment exits, as well as financing and re-financings.
Derek heads Biggart Baillie's Corporate Recovery & Insolvency team, which provides insolvency and corporate recovery advice and support to a range of organisations.
Although based in Scotland Derek’s practice reaches throughout the UK and often beyond. He has significant experience of big ticket, international advice and transactions, initially gained through his eight years practicing in the City of London. Derek is admitted as solicitor in Scotland, England and Wales.
A member of the Company and Insolvency Law Sub-Committee of The Law Society of Scotland, Derek is also Company Secretary of Glasgow Opportunities, one of the leading providers of business development and training in Scotland.
