Douglas has experience in all aspects of intellectual property law including the protection and exploitation of trade marks; copyright; branding; patents; know how; database rights and design rights. Douglas also has experience in drafting and negotiating commercial contracts including software licences; agency agreements; distribution agreements; and franchise agreements. He also advises on advertising; passing off; and a range of data protection and freedom of information issues, including advising on appeals to the Scottish Information Commissioner under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
Douglas has experience in advising on UK and EU competition law, and has advised a number of clients subject to cartel investigations by the Office of Fair Trading under the Competition Act 1998. He also advises on EU public procurement law and on mergers and acquisitions that require clearance from the UK and EU competition authorities.
Douglas has a Postgraduate Diploma in EU Competition Law from King's College London; an LL.M (magna cum laude) in Public International Law from University of Leiden in the Netherlands; and acts as an online tutor on the University of Edinburgh's LL.M in Innovation, Technology and the Law, by distance learning.
