Flexible Working Rights Extended
23rd April 2007
The Flexible Working (Eligibility, Complaints and Remedies) (Amendment) Regulations 2006 came into effect on 6th April 2007. The Regulations extend the right to request flexible working to employees who:
a) have been continuously employed for a period of not less than 26 weeks; and
b) are or expect to be caring for a person in need of care who is either
- married to or the partner or civil partner of the employee;
- a relative of the employee; or
- living at the same address as the employee.
New definitions, notably of "partner" and "relative", also take effect from 6th April 2007.
A private member's Bill was introduced in the House of Commons at end March 2007 which, if enacted, will further extend the right to request flexible working to all parents with children under the age of 18.
