Age Discrimination Legislation - More Changes On The Way

2nd April 2007

The Government has recently published new regulations amending other legislation to reflect the requirements of the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006.  The main changes are as follows:-

  • The Employment Rights Act 1996 is changed in order to reflect the fact that it will be unfair dismissal if an employee is exercising or seeking to exercise their right to be accompanied or to accompany another at a meeting to request working beyond the intended retirement date.
  • Complaints relating to Age Discrimination will be excluded from the current fixed 13 week ACAS conciliation period which applies to standard claims before the Tribunal.

These changes will come into effect on 6 April 2007.
