8 internal promotions announced: 3 new partners and 5 new associates.
Leading Scottish law firm, Biggart Baillie LLP, is reinforcing its commitment to future growth with the internal promotions of 3 partners and 5 associates.
In the Corporate department, David Gilchrist and Damien Bechelli are promoted to Partner. David and Damien will continue to focus on corporate finance and corporate transactions and will look to further expand the firm’s corporate presence in Glasgow
In the Property department, Chris McLeish is promoted to Partner. Going forward Chris will continue to build the UK property finance and investment practice.
Promotions to Associate include Joanna Hamilton in the Property department, Jonathan Rennie in the Employment team, Euan McSherry in the Dispute Management department, Mairi Black in the Pensions team and Louise Gibson in the Infrastructure, Environment and Transport department.

David Gilchrist
Partner
David joined the firm as a trainee in 2000 and has considerable experience in corporate and commercial work and has particular experience in the energy sector including work in commodity and carbon trading and renewables. David has worked on a number of significant transactions with key clients of the firm including ScottishPower, Loganair, CMA Scotland and Caledonian Maritime.
Damien Bechelli
Partner
Damien joined the firm as a trainee in 2001 and has considerable experience in corporate finance and corporate recovery work. Damien has worked with many key clients and connections of the firm including Axeon, BM Stores, Ascot Care Homes Limited, Mpathy Medical Devices Limited and many of the corporate finance and corporate recovery intermediaries in the Glasgow market.
Chris McLeish
Partner
Chris joined Biggart Baillie in 2001 and has considerable experience in commercial property transactions with particular emphasis on Investment and Asset Management. Also qualified in England and Wales, his experience covers Property Finance as well as the leisure sector for a range of local and national groups. He principally acts for UK Banks and property investors and developers.
Joanna Hamilton
Associate
Joanna joined the firm as a trainee in 2004, and has built up a solid reputation with clients working largely within Anthony McEwans’ team. Her varied workload encompasses a broad spectrum of property instructions including freehold and leasehold site acquisition and disposal; portfolio management for landlords and tenants and land investment transactions. Joanna also has a strong track record in a number of niche areas including telecoms, energy and agricultural law issues arising in cross-country infrastructure projects. Joanna has made a significant contribution to the firm’s success with key clients such as Scottish Power and McCarthy and Stone.
Jonathan Rennie
Associate
Jonathan joined the firm as an Assistant in the employment group in 2006. During that time he has become a valued member of the Group with extensive experience in representation and advice for clients at all levels. He also undertakes considerable corporate support. Jonathan deals with significant clients like Aberdeenshire, Fife and Renfrewshire Councils, BEAR, Ringways, Ennstone and Amazon.
Euan McSherry
Associate
Euan joined the firm as an Assistant in the Commerial Dispute Management Group in 2006. During that time he has been involved in a significant number of high level, complex commercial claims. He has developed considerable expertise and become an invaluable member of the team. He acts for clients such as Marine Harvest, Aviva plc, Catalyst Securities Limited, Lightways (Contractors) Limited and Marine Harvest (Scotland) Limited.
Mairi Black
Associate
Mairi joined the Pensions Team in autumn 2005. Since then she has developed broad-based experience and expertise through working with a range of private and public sector clients on many different types of pensions issues and challenges. As part of her work, Mairi regularly gives advice on corporate deals, as part of the larger Biggart Baillie corporate team.
Louise Gibson
Associate
Louise first joined Biggart Baillie in 2003 as a trainee. In the last seven years, she has worked mostly with Neil Amner and provided valuable support to the IET department since its formation in 2006. She advises clients on environmental law both non-contentious and contentious; property work for transport clients; railway contracts and regulation; as well as Parliamentary matters, particularly harbours legislation. She has contributed to our work for clients such as Babcock Rail, Babcock Marine, BRBR, SEPA and Virgin Trains.
