Our Approach to Corporate Social Responsibility
As a leading provider of legal services, Biggart Baillie is committed to managing its business in a responsible manner and making a positive contribution to the wider community. Biggart Baillie recognises that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not only good management practice, it also makes sound business sense.
We deliver our commitment to CSR through considerate business practice, listening to our clients and developing effective working relationships with employees, suppliers and other stakeholders.
CSR issues that we believe are key to our business success include:
- Creating a positive working environment for our people.
- Improving the overall service we offer to clients and acting in an ethical manner.
- Minimising our environmental impacts. As part of our ongoing CSR initiatives, we are delighted to confirm that as of 1st January 2008, we became a carbon neutral law firm. This has been achieved by reducing overall energy use, improving recycling facilities, sourcing ‘greener’ products and services and offsetting the remaining CO2 emissions via a Scottish carbon reduction project.
- Supporting local and international charities through donations and pro-bono work. For example, two of our partners work with PilotLight and a number of other partners, fee earners and support staff work with the Johari Foundation. Brent Haywood, partner in the firm, ran a "mad" Supermarathon between 18th and 21st March. He travelled to Hungary to run 120 miles around Lake Balaton - otherwise known as the "Hungarian Sea". The race, one of the world’s greatest endurance races, takes place over 4 days. As it is a stage race, Brent had to run approximately 30 miles each day and must complete each 30 miles within 6 hours.
More recently one of our transport partners, Neil Amner, was heavily involved with the project to complete the "Bridge To Nowhere" in the West End of Glasgow. The Stakeholder Group representing Glasgow City Council and SUSTRAN, chaired by Neil, secured lottery funding as part of a wider "Connect 2" cycling projects bid. Work on the bridge will commence in 2011.
We also directly support a number of other charities including:
