Our Approach to Corporate Social Responsibility

Our Approach to Corporate Social Responsibility

As a leading provider of legal services, Biggart Baillie is committed to managing its business in a responsible manner and making a positive contribution to the wider community. Biggart Baillie recognises that Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is not only good management practice, it also makes sound business sense.

CSR issues that we believe are key to our business success include:

  • Creating a positive working environment for our people.
  • Improving the overall service we offer to clients and acting in an ethical manner.
  • Minimising our environmental impacts.
  • Supporting local charities through donations and pro-bono work.

We deliver our commitment to CSR through considerate business practice, listening to our clients and developing effective working relationships with employees, suppliers and other stakeholders.

As part of our ongoing CSR initiatives, we are delighted to confirm that as of 1st January 2008, we became a carbon neutral law firm.  This has been achieved by reducing overall energy use, improving recycling facilities, sourcing ‘greener’ products and services and offsetting the remaining 330 tonnes of CO2 emissions via a Scottish carbon reduction project. One of the key CSR highlights of 2007 was the success of the Biggart Baillie team in raising £95,000 for The Prince’s Trust in Scotland. The team raised the vast majority of its £95,000 from organising Scotland’s first ever National Green Day, held on 3 November 2007, as part of the The Lions’ Den Professional Challenge. The “Apprentice” style challenge to five Scottish law firms was to each take £3,000 of The Trust’s money and transform it into at least £20,000 within six months.

The Biggart Baillie team was mentored by Scottish entrepreneur David Gordon of Windsave, the environmentally conscious manufacturers of domestic wind-turbines. National Green Day involved an environmental exhibition in Glasgow’s George Square and a green competition for over 110 nursery, primary and secondary schools across Scotland. Over 400 schoolchildren attended the schools day in George Square on 2 November and thousands of people flocked to the exhibition on National Green Day itself.

Over the past 12 months we also directly supported a number of other charities inlcuding:

  • Alzheimers Society
  • Barnado's
  • British Heart Foundation
  • Children's Safety Education Fondation
  • CLIC sargent
  • DEBRA Scotland
  • Macmillan Cancer Relief
  • Marie Curie Cancer Care
